Social Media Schau: Episode 3 [GER]
What are the hottest trends on Instagram, LinkedIn, and beyond?
Social Media Schau delivers the most relevant developments every week, puts them into strategic context, and translates them into concrete to-dos for decision-makers.
Finally Bringing Clarity to the Social Media Update Jungle
New features every week, new platform dynamics, new hype cycles. Anyone responsible for social media knows the problem: everyone is talking, but hardly anyone is providing context.
This is exactly where Social Media Schau comes in.
Verena Gründel, host and Director Brand & Communications at DMEXCO, and Nemo Tronnier, founder and managing director of Social DNA, filter out three to five topics each week that truly matter—and don’t just tell you what’s happening, but also what you should do next.
This Week’s Topics
1. Netflix gets a TikTok-style feed
Netflix is following suit with the introduction of “Clips” — a vertical video feed داخل its mobile app. Users can swipe through short snippets from shows and movies to discover new content faster. Vertical video is now solidifying as the global standard for content discovery.
2. YouTube tests AI-powered search and AI music tools for creators
YouTube is accelerating its AI integration. With “Ask YouTube,” the platform is testing a conversational search experience: users receive not just video recommendations, but direct AI-generated answers with relevant video links and helpful follow-up prompts.
At the same time, creators will soon be able to generate royalty-free, AI-powered instrumental tracks directly in YouTube Studio based on existing music. This pushes YouTube further toward becoming an all-in-one platform for both production and discovery.
3. LinkedIn grows as Meta shows first signs of decline
Notable shifts in the social media landscape: LinkedIn surpassed 1.3 billion members in Q1 2026 and is reporting record revenue.
In contrast, Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) reported its first decline: daily active users dropped by around 20 million in Q1 2026. While Meta continues to generate strong revenue through more efficient AI-driven ads, user growth appears to have peaked—while LinkedIn continues to gain in quality and engagement.
