DMEXCO CMO Summit: Marketing decision-makers discuss future strategies

The CMO Summit at DMEXCO 2024 brought together leading international marketing decision-makers to discuss the future of digital marketing. Topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, data analytics, and corporate branding shaped the day, driving the strategic advancement of the industry. The event provided a central platform for networking and exchange, while top speakers took the stage by storm. An inspiring kickoff for the future developments in marketing!

In the Fireside Chat “Restraint has never brought anyone forward,” Philipp Hitschler-Becker, CEO of Hitschler International, shared exciting insights into the digital transformation of the family business. He explained how Hitschler’s products went viral and successfully engaged a young, digitally-savvy target audience.

"For example, people ask, 'Hey Philipp, do you put any budget behind your TikTok, Instagram, and so on?' I can promise you, we don't put any budget behind it. We have TikToks, Reels, Instagram videos, and so on. The numbers we show – and you can also see them on Reels, for example – are organic. And I believe, or we believe, this is also [part of] our success."

Through bold, sometimes “cringy” campaigns, Hitschler became a recognizable digital brand, with the goal of managing the company entirely digitally. At this point, congratulations to the lucky recipient of the 2024 Hitschies Advent Calendar!

In the keynote “BrAIve New World?”, Susanne Franz from Volkswagen emphasized the importance of balancing technological advancements with human creativity. She highlighted that while artificial intelligence increases efficiency, the human element—especially creativity and emotional intelligence—remains indispensable for maintaining an authentic brand identity. The future of marketing lies in the synergy between both aspects to create credible and emotional brand messages.

"Human input is still key to achieving the right synergy and not getting lost in a sea of sameness, because human truth makes the difference, not the machine itself. That's why I believe it's about augmentation in the creative process. It will change the creative process, no doubt about that, but it won't replace it. I think creativity will remain, humanity will remain, and AI will help us by augmenting our creativity."

Susanne Franz, CMO, Volkswagen

Agency Creativity Summit: How is AI Changing Digital Creativity?

At the Agencies Stage, the brightest minds of the agency industry gathered for the “Agency Creativity Summit” to discuss the impact of AI on creative processes and outcomes. In the panel “State of Digital Creativity,” industry experts such as Robert Andersen (Jung von Matt), Dora Osinde (Ogilvy Group Germany), Marjorieth Sanmartin (Philipp and Keuntje), Jack Smyth (API), and Peer Wörpel (la red GmbH) explored the current state and future of digital creative agencies.

"I do believe that there are a lot of dull jobs, that are going to be taken by AI. Because there is a lot of systematical work you can put on a machine to spit it out and you can train it and fix it in the direction that you want. [...] Why should we take the time and losing our time [...] to do this kind of ideas?"

Marjorieth Sanmartin, CCO, Philipp und Keuntje

In the panel “How Digital Creativity Drives Brand Success,” Davide Colla (150UP), Giuseppe Fiordispina (CUPRA/SEAT Germany), Francesca Lange (Fritz-Kola), and Aissu Diallo (Butter) discussed the significance of AI and digital solutions for greater efficiency and effectiveness. They focused on the impact of social networks and immersive technologies.

"Digital Marketing is never stable. It's always changing, evolving, new stuff is coming up. You have to be on top of this and have to be open to change. Otherwise you should do a different job."

Francesca Lange, Head of Digital Marketing, fritz-kola
